How we got started
Early in 2000...
I took the opportunity to fulfill my dream of opening my own business. Working from my garage behind my house, I spent many hours fabricating miscellaneous parts for John Deere. During this time I was also a welding instructor at Tennessee Tech in Knoxville. One of my students Andy Burleson asked about stainless steel fabrication. His brother, Randy Burleson owner of Aubrey's and other local restaurants, needed a stainless steel fabricator.
After meeting with Randy, my vision of opening my own fabrication shop was going to happen. In 2003, during my father's last few months, I realized I couldn't run Specialty Stainless on my own. Chris Covington, a former student, came to work for Specialty Stainless Inc. Over the next several years we worked hard to provide an exceptional product and service and needed to hire two welders and one fabricator. In 2007, I earned my mechanical contractors license and formed the partnership of Specialty Stainless LLC with Chris and Rusty Goddard. We continued hiring and purchased new equipment to help us grow.
Specialty Stainless is a NSF certified fabricator. We currently have many local and national restaurant customers as well as hotels, school systems and other government customers. We also fabricate residential counter tops, hood systems, and outdoor grill systems.
The Specialty Stainless team consists of:

Office Manager
Graduating with a degree in C.A.D. he has over 25 years of drafting experience with 15 years in the metal fabrication industry.
Will Davison
Shop Supervisor
Will, has over 15 years at Specialty Stainless…Joined the team shortly after studying for a BS degree in Agricultural Systems Technology at the University of Tennessee, Will has an “Eye” for R&D from start to finish on all projects and the attention to the “craftsmanship” side of the trade.
Kevin Gidcumb
Welder/Fabricator
Over 40 years of stainless steel fabricator experience with 30 years of installation experience to insure the product goes according to plan.
Bob Auer
Fabricator/CNC Brake
Has 45 years of stainless steel fabrication/CNC brake operator experience; extensive R&D on custom stainless steel commercial kitchens; and NFS certified dish tables and countertops. Bob’s knowledge and experience in the field of stainless steel fabrication adds to the 'exceeds expectation ‘ environment at Specialty Stainless.
Trevor Luttrell
Field Supervisor
Trevor graduated from The Tennessee College of Applied Technology in Knoxville and joined us at Speciality Stainless for the apprenticeship
program. With his work ethics, welding and polishing skills he is able to concentrate and complete jobs with minimal supervision.
Austin Grigsby
Welder/Fabricator
While being the newest member to the team, upon his completion of our apprenticeship program Austin has shown to be a valued employee for Specialty Stainless and with his welding/polishing skills and attention to detail he will be for a long time to come.
Drew Geary
Welder/Fabricator
Has over 20 years experience in stainless steel fabrication, CNC brake work, laser programming, welding and field installation. Drew has an eye for detail and is a valuable recent addition to Specialty Stainless.
Gavin Sweet
CAD Drafting
Upon graduating from TCAT with a mechanical drafting degree, Gavin completed Specialty Stainless’ apprenticeship program. With an open mind and great attention to detail he will be heading up our CAD department in the very near future and for years to come.
Carlos Luiz
Welder/ Fabricator
Upon relocating from Seattle, Carlos brings 10+ years of welding and fabication experience to our team and with his work ethic has proven to be a valued addition
